Employment after 50
Are the boomers in for a bust?
Currently it seems that way, with high unemployment and the competition for
high paying positions middle class boomers are finding it harder to latch
onto that position and salary range that they were once used too.
The trend in tactics to try to get past the screening process is to avoid dates
on resume or CV, but that only throws out a Red Flags to employers, with a
little more digging, and with sites like
www.intelius.com
employers can easy gather information for free. Another way that +50 employment
seekers are facing is the little discrimination game is when employers ask
for information about when they attend college. It's almost
disgraceful and almost improvable. And with companies like
http://www.intelius.com it is easy to find out general information about a
prospective employee almost immediately without a fee. For another $49
you can find out almost anything.
The only thing thing to stay ahead of the game in this economy, or any economy
for that matter, is to make sure you are more competitive and better
equipped to handle the opportunities made available. That includes
staying ahead of the latest trends in your industry and continually make
yourself better that your competition. Get you act together, exercise,
read, network-network-network, join user groups in your area, do as much as
you can to be as busy as you can.
You have to understand that many of the people now reviewing your resume may be
half you're age, and sorry to say this is the period in life when "You Are
Old".
Keep in mind though, you have more experience, knowledge, you know what to do
and not to do and you still can get the job done in half the time with less
effort. This is the companies loss not really yours.
Don't get to anxious out there yet, make sure you do your homework, with the
high unemployment there are many companies popping up just to take advantage
of the situation.
Don't get to discouraged out there things will improve and if you have made any
plans or can develop a plan to get by the hardest part we all make it in the
end.
